Indefinite transportation strike in Mechi

Transportation workers have called indefinite transportation strike in Mechi zone from Saturday (July 31) accusing the administration of not providing compensation to the family of a murdered colleague.

Vehicular movement in the different districts of the zone --Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, and Taplejung has obstructed.

The administration had agreed to provide a compensation of Rs. 1 million to the family of taxi driver, Deepak Pandey of Garamuni in Jhapa, after he was murdered at Bhaunne of Morang two years ago.

Similarly, the administration had also agreed to provide a compensation of Rs. 350,000 to the family of driver Sher Bahadur Magar, who was allegedly killed during a marriage ceremony mishap last year.   The workers have resorted to the protest as no compensation has been provided the families yet.
